LENS is a natural, non-medication based, approach to successfully treat:
LENS has been proven effective in resolving symptoms of:
Low Energy Neurofeedback System (LENS) is a unique, safe, and researched form of neurofeedback therapy that stimulates the brain out of stuck, maladaptive brainwave patterns to restore optimal brain function. LENS works like a reset switch to help the brain function with more flexibility and efficiency. This allows the brain to adjust more effectively to daily environmental and psychological stimuli. The increase in overall brain function results in its ability to show improvements in a wide range of conditions and symptoms:
LENS involves an EEG measuring and recording electrical signals (brain waves) from the scalp, and using the frequencies of those signals to guide the neurofeedback signal of dominant brain waves with the slightest amount of offset from a feedback unit. When the Brain is given information about itself, it has an enormous capacity for change. By changing the EEG, changes occur in brain timing, and can create a more activated, alert, and stable Brain. Or a more calm Brain. Excessive fast or slow activity is associated with brain dysregulation, and a variety of clinical symptoms.
The extremely weak electromagnetic pulses come from the neurofeedback EEG cables and will be neither visible nor will you be able to feel them. The recorded EEG signals influence the electromagnetic feedback and the brain self-adjusts, self-regulates, harmonizes, and minimizes its dysfunction. The neurofeedback, in turn, changes the quantity and frequency of the recorded brainwave signals to optimize overall brain function.
LENS has been remarkably effective with over 80% of people who have used it have benefitted significantly. Results are seen quickly , within 6 to 20 sessions, compared to traditional biofeedback where 40+ sessions are usually needed to see results. LENS unique neurofeedback treatment may also benefit people who are already healthy and are interested in peak functioning and inner resilience to stress. Once symptoms are resolved, there is usually no need for continued sessions because results are long term. The LENS biofeedback system is certified by United States FDA as a 510K exempt biofeedback device.
LENS has been extremely effective for both children and adults. Since LENS is not treating a specific diagnosis, but instead treating a brain that is stuck in dysfunctional patterns to become more flexible and adaptable to optimize brain function, there is significant improvement seen in most conditions and symptoms. Age Management uses an integrative approach to patient care to treat the children and adults with a combination of natural approaches such as dietary programs, nutraceutical supplementation, stress management techniques, and lifestyle & behavior modification skills to obtain optimal, long term results.
Yes. Children, Adolescents, and Teenagers have shown remarkable progress with LENS treatment for issues such as anxiety, ADD, ADHD, anger, explosive behavior, learning disabilities, and autism spectrum disorders. Most see improvements over only a few sessions.
LENS is a 510K exempt FDA-certified class II device which is considered safer than most 510K biofeedback and neurofeedback devices. With over 75,000 people treated with LENS, there has never been a documented long-term negative side effect. LENS does not affect healthy brainwaves, it only affects stuck, non-adaptable brain wave patterns to optimize overall brain function. Occasionally, some patients may experience short lived side effects of feeling wired or foggy for a couple hours after treatment. Recurrence or a slight increase in symptoms may occur the first week of treatments, before dramatic improvement in symptoms is observed.
Yes. Age Management of West Michigan promotes using an integrative approach to treating patients symptoms and conditions to optimize results. A variety of adjunctive treatment programs such as diet and nutritional supplements may be recommended to increase long term effectiveness of LENS treatment. Medications do not diminish the effectiveness of LENS so stopping or reducing your medication should only be done under guidance of your healthcare provider. At the end of LENS treatment, a large percentage of patients accomplish their long term goals off getting off medications.
The brainwave recording process may require the use of a mild abrasive gel or witch hazel to clean the skin, after that, some electrode gel or cream will be applied to ear clip sensor, and attached to both ears, to improve the quality of the recording. A third sensor will then be pressed to your forehead or other scalp sites, and held there with a wax paste.
No needles, shock, skin penetrating, or other invasive procedures are used. The equipment assesses a client’s brainwaves-extremely faint electrical signals measured at discrete locations on the scalp. The LENS equipment then generates and disburses extremely faint, battery-generated signals that the brain may respond to in beneficial ways.
During the sessions, your eyes will be closed and you will be asked to sit quietly. Your brain can detect feedback, although you will not see anything. The speed of the feedback will be controlled by the signals picked up at the scalp. Your only in instructions will be to close your eyes and rest. You will not be asked to think of anything in particular, or to learn anything. You will be asked frequently if you are comfortable with the feedback in order to adjust it most effectively. This is a passive process.
At your initial consultation you will be asked to complete a patient intake form, sensitivity / reactivity / hardiness questionnaire, and CNS functioning assessment to determine plan of treatment. At the start of treatment, you will be asked about your five most prominent symptoms before treatment, and asked to rank them. You will be asked to journal your results and changes experienced during your treatment to be reviewed at LENS treatment sessions.
It is difficult to predict how many LENS sessions will be required. The following estimates are based on our experience. Some patients have needed fewer sessions, and occasionally a few more.
Primary Insurance will NOT cover LENS. Patients can use HSA and FSA accounts if available.
16 LENS sessions are included in the cost of the Brain Performance Program. LENS as an adjunct modality. Initial session: $125; weekly sessions: $75.
